I’d have to be careful not to strap the cats to the wall, of course.

Though...they’d probably be good insulation.

Ya think maybe if I covered the entire surface of the outer wall in duct tape, it’d help?

If you like grey :~)

There’s all kinds of foam and insulating kinds of products out there, I’d just look around and see what you can adapt to your situation. Weatherstripping that will stick might do well around the leaky windows, as might a few more cans of that expandy foam stuff, sprayed into every hole you can still find.

I don’t have personal experience with the cellophane window things, but I’ve seen them. I think the problem would be getting them to stay up, and be any more sealed than the windows you’ve got. You might consider blocking a couple of the windows entirely on the inside with that rigid construction foam. Not your big front one, certainly, you’ll want to be able to see outside, but maybe the little unimportant ones in the back, and in bedrooms. Cut to fit and taped up to seal them in, and they might do nicely to hold more heat in. Or just write big checks till spring... ;~)

If you you put the coats on thin those sheets of pink construction foam will take good painting with spraypaint. So you don't have to live with the pink if you use them. You can't actually see them in this picture but they are glued up between the floor joists and painted dark red/brown. They make the basement not echoy end feel much 'tighter'. You just cut them with a utility knife and snap it off. Pretty easy. Not super cheap but a few bucks for one sheet would do a bunch of windows.

Also if you get a little crimatic foot heater you can keep that wherever you are and crank the heat down everywhere else.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon...you know I'm gonna be like you dad...

So I'm sitting in the bored meeting this morning and I get this text message from Jr. "I need you."

I swear I am not making this up. He was in an accident on his way home from traffic court. He's okay. No one was hurt. Just minor damage. But he was charged with failure to yield and improper lane change.

Oh well, at least it's show time...

If you can hang up spare blankets in front of the windows, that helps too. And of course if there’s a room you can close off, close whatever heating vents go to there, and ignore, that tends to help.

Yeah, got a blanket in the window in the bedroom. It does help. But the front room is an issue. I can feel cold air coming off of the window there big time, but I hate to block it.

That’s the current method. Still had a really, really painful electric bill, tho.

What’s your curtain situation? we have great big heavy “blackout curtains” on top of light little white curtains in our front windows. When they close, they’re really good at trapping heat in. I made them myself, they’re just big squares of fabric that I turned the edges down on. Got the fabric from the clearance racks at the fabric store. It’s nice because I can open them when we want and the rest of the time they do a good job keeping things cozy.

You know...I’ve been thinking...

I want to get my car wrapped. You know, like with someone’s advertisement. I think they pay you for every mile you drive. I don’t know how it works exactly, maybe they put a GPS in your car or something?

I don’t know...I’ve just been thinking...what do you think?

At home we used to have heavy cotton curtains with a foam lining that did a really great job of keeping things warm - we closed ‘em at night. They were pricey, though...and I don’t have an easy way to hang curtains without a lot of new hardware. But it’s true, it’d help. And fabric from the clearance rack or from old sheets or some such thing wouldn’t be terribly expensive.
