The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Sam sounds ferocious to anyone that doesn’t know him. But he’s a big, lazy baby.

Last time the contractor was here we asked if Sam gave him any trouble. He said, “Are you kidding? I had to step over him to get in the door.”

I was standing there in the back side yard listening to all the ruckus, and Gidget was on the job at the fenceline all hackled... I mean, she would actually bite someone who came over the fence, I think, heck... she bit my landlord who came through the gate after I yelled stop. :~)

But I was sitting there thinking also that I needed to get ahold of her if the guy did come over the fence because of the cops and other vigilantes who might soon follow. I mean, situations like that are how good dogs get shot by cops.

But it didn’t come to that, luckily :~)

Gidget is definitely more territorial than the Lab side of her would be. Which is mostly good!

Cisco...I dunno. He might protect sheep, if he could keep his mind on them for more than a second or two. I don’t know that he’d protect *me*, though...

Well, I’m home. Made really good time...was cruisin’ at twenty most of the way along Littlerock, which ain’t bad! Now I have to get changed and take the bike to the shop for its 90 day tune-up. Considering all the riding I’ve done, the tune-up is a real bargain. But I’m mourning being without the bike for a whole day, on a day it promises to be very nice. *snif*

I guess he stole a hat.

A HAT -- nobody wears hats, not since JFK went without one at his inauguration. Kind of ironic when you remember that his Dem predecessor, Truman, was a haberdasher!

I wear a hat occasionally! It's something of a fashion among fat geek SF fans, actually.

In Texas, in summertime, you MUST wear a hat. When was the last time you saw someone wear a homburg or fedora, though?

The majority go bare-headed. Of those who wear hats, most are "gimmie" or bill caps. Of course, this being Texas, there are also lots of cowboy hats, Stetsons, etc.

Don't see many homburgs or fedoras... mine is a straw Panama hat, the same one I wore to Hair and ecurbh's wedding.

I wore my PASGT helmet and goggles when I was using the chainsaw to trim some major limbs on the tree on my mom's front yard. That was my latest incident of hat-wearing.

I also wear a GI boonie hat when working outdoors on hot, blindingly-sunny days. That adds up to about a dozen days a year.

Hair, you should ping these guys to your “hat thread.”

When we run out of topics, we just recycle the old ones.

Maybe I should just post a new hat thread... or not :~)

We just had to beat the beagle for taking honey’s hamburger bun off the counter. We haven’t talked about that before, I don’t think.

Don’t remember if we told y’all this but the first six months we had Gypsy she did not bark, at all, ever (we think she had her bark beat out of her). Anyway, I had to have a repair man in the house, and she just sat on her bed and stared at him; followed his every move with her eyes, but nary a sound came out of her. It freaked the guy out so bad, he says, “I can take a barking dog, but this silent treatment is making me really nervous.” So I put a leash on her.

When she started barking, it was really high and tight for awhile; with use it lowered some and loosened up. LSA

“What was that about hats?”

“Oh... People aren’t wearing enough of them.”

“Does anybody remember seeing that building there before...?”

Ruh-roh...

By the way, did my dog permanently damage your beagle, or has he stopped limping?
