Well, the weedwacker started and ran like a champ, but it's the wrong tool for the job. The scotch broom is just too tall now, I'm going to have to use something else to cut it back. I'd be cutting over my head. I tried it a little and it kicked my butt.

I need to cut it back to about the yellow line so I can run the mower around the perimeter.

See if you can rent a gas-powered hedge trimmer. I’ve only ever used an electric one, but I’ll bet that would knock that stuff right out.
