I just bust it up, banging on it with the feed bucket, when it’s like it is today..maybe 1/4 inch thick. I leave the pieces floating, the sun is shining, so they will melt fairly quick. When the ice is really thick and has to be broke with the ax, I scoop out the pieces with the muck rake.

I have a heater for Rocky’s trough that I will get out today and put in his trough. His trough is big enough that I can then dip out of it to give Harley a drink.

The thing I most hate about winter is frozen water troughs and frozen hoses.

Ours just has the thinnest layer of ice on it... but the hose is frozen. Luckily they’re still full enough. I guess I need to start with the stuffing the hose under the house routine at night.
