Well, she has lost a lot of weight...I don’t think she weighs more then 25lbs.
I didn’t get a trailer, I’m hoping she’s so out of it, I can just pick her up and put her in the truck. I’ve put her sleeping pad in it. She is sleeping now under the RV, right at the edge, it shouldn’t be hard to get her out.
Oh - Well I hope you can get her in there. Let us know, OK? When are you leaving? Half hour or so? (trying to do the time zone math)
Yum, mangos and salsa! Have you ever had mango salsa? That sounds delicious. Are there any Trader Joes in your area? They sell out of this world peach salsa. It’s delicious. I could eat it straight out of the jar with a spoon. If you’re interested, I can send you some.
She’s in the truck now. I moved her just fine, she’s pretty out of it.
Is it just a shot he will give her? Do you think he could do it with her in the truck?
Oh and I’m leaving in about 10 minutes.
Just so you all know, I’m OK with this. I mean it’s sad, but it’s really for the best for her, so I’m OK. It’s not traumatic or anything. She was a great pet, but it’s time.
And one other thing:)...the kids all offered to do this for me, but I just don’t like pawning responsibilities off on others.
Didn’t want anyone wondering “where’s the kids??”:)
Everything went just fine. I don’t think she had a clue she had even gone for a truck ride, it was very peaceful.
It can make its rounds again but it usually doesn't. KC is an airbourne virus and they really don't have to be at a kennel. I went for 20 years without having it and I went to indoor shows, etc then last year I had it twice so I finally broke down and the vaccination for it. I don't like to over vaccinate but I was tired of coughing and hacking dogs. It is usually more of an annoyance than anything. I would just give them some Robetussin and let it runs its course.
I’m very glad to hear that.
Oh - so glad it went well. I got to doing my morning stuff and by the time I came back it was done.
I know and believe it was time. We could see when we were there that her days of enjoying life were limited. I’m amazed, actually, that she made it as long as she did! I am just glad it was peaceful at the end and not a bad scene.
Wow Duchess! That is pricey. Maybe you should just move. Alfalfa hay is much more expensive here, around $14 a bale grass hay runs from $3 to $6 for square bales depending on the quality. Big round bales are $35-$50 down here, I think they are a little more up by Frog. We ran out of hay last winter and fed a complete food plus the co-op had a dehydrated alfalfa that was $14.50 for a 50# compressed bag. I have an old mare that chokes also and we just soaked it for her. She cannot even eat the alfalfa pellets. She gets a senior diet that is a softer pelleted food that she does not choke on. If you got the alfalfa cubes, they are cheaper here $10 for 50#) you could soak those also for Prez and he would not choke. To bad you don't have any firends or family that are truck drivers and they could snatch some hay up for you from an area that is doing well in the hay dept.
No, I’ve never made mango salsa but if I get more mangos I’ll give it a try. I made the salsa from tomatillos, tomatoes, onions, garlic and three different kinds of mexican hot peppers. The mangos became mango jam.
We have a Trader Joe’s here - I’ll get some peach salsa and give it a try.
Now just have a box and a bag of mexican peppers to do something with - maybe dehydrate some and pickle some.
Well, if I moved I’d have to leave my mountains behind :)
Bob is starting to switch some of the horses over today. I’m looking forward to seeing how they do.
Horse Chow and Equine Adult have both gone up alot here also. Up to over $14 a bag.
Becky, as hard as the decision is I know it was right. Nikki was having a hard time last October when I saw her. She is at peace now and no more pain or worry about the other dogs bothering her. She was a good girl. Rest peacefully sweet Nikki.
The desert mountains are indeed beautiful, I can attest to that!

Check around either on the internet of by actually reading bags. Southern States carries a complete food out here called Legends. Our Co-Op has a complete food but it is mainly a senior diet. Purina also has several choices, not only the Horse Chow but Equine Adult, Equine Senior, etc. Like I mentioned we fed the Equine Adult but supplemented with the dehydrated (soaked) alfalfa for more fiber. Last year we used the alfalfa cubes (soaked) and I think I like them better than the dehydrated. They dehydrated was pretty powdery, the cubes are cleaner and easier to measure out.
Thanks everyone. It helps that others think it was time also.
