Well, I’m lucky in that the bones and joint are fine so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining.

Oh no, complain all you want, that's one of the few benefits of a sports injury.

When I tore my ACL (what a coincidence, another riding accident!) the doc opted for conservative therapy. He said there was no difference in outcome if we waited for 8 weeks and tried physical therapy, versus operating immediately.

In those days (I did that several years before my hand), there was no arthroscopic surgery and no MRIs. They did a dye scan on the knee (a primitive procedure involving LARGE needles and inflating your knee with nitrogen or CO2, can't remember which) and couldn't find any trace of the ligament. But rather than lay me open they decided to try PT. It worked -- the doctor ultimately concluded that I must have had only a partial tear because I got full function back with aggressive PT. I still have a slight Lochmann's Sign (lateral instability in that knee) but the ligament is probably just a little lax.

Bob did talk to the breeder - I guess what’s going to happen is that they will send us another pup. I am so upset about Belle, we will have her checked again at 2yrs old - hopefully it will remain mild (it’s in one hip only) and she will be pain free and able to stay active. I had to have a german shephard put down at about 8mos old many years ago - she had it so bad she was falling down going around corners. Her breeder had guaranteed no HD - I so wanted him to develop it himself.

Sorry about Belle. Hopefully she’ll be OK if she doesn’t overdo... I’ve heard to avoid things like jumping up, as in to jump in the back of a pickup or up stairs, to avoid wear and tear. A friend with GSDs doesn’t let his dogs do either one till their two, and those are the good ones, that he’s training to sell to police depts for big bucks. He said jumping up is hard on pups hips.

Food for thought.

On another note... I got our mower running, so I’ve been out mowing, finally! The yard was looking like a jungle, at least in parts, where it’s coming back to life.

So my only spring fitness plan that seems to work is back on track, there’s lots of mowing to do.

Started on the first pull this time. :~)

I think it was just too cold the other day. It doesn’t like to start when it’s cold out.

Sweet Belle will be fine (thinking powerful good thoughts here). You're probably a little gun shy since you had such a bad experience with your GSD. That's very unusual.

Did she display any symptoms (limping, favoring?)

In other news, here's how far I've come on my Crow war shirt:

It's all sewn, fringed, neck facing complete, front and back neck panels beaded, and scalp locks and ermine skins installed. I've got one sleeve strip almost completely beaded (3 by 17 inches of solid multicolor beading), once I finish the 2nd one I'll sew them to the sleeves from the shoulder seam to the wrist. Then I'll add horsehair trailers with brass beads to the edges of the sleeve strips. THEN I have to make two more 3 by 21 inch strips for the sides of the body. And more horsehair trailers. And probably some more ermine skins (they're not really ermine, that stuff is sky high. I faked them from rabbit skin.)

Avoid jumping up?

Sheesh - all my pups DO is jump up!

When Shelley was spayed, the doc cautioned me not to let her jump. Then here she came being led down the hall, leaping sky high like a kangaroo at every step. I just looked at the doctor and kind of threw my hands out . . .

Oh no... he doesn’t chew ~things~. He breaks into food.

He tipped over the dog food bin.. ~again~.

And it’s not like I didn’t think of it. I brought him out with me, but the door wasn’t latched and he pushed it open.

The rubbermaid bin is not secure enough, but then if we made it more secure, there’s always the garbage, or the refrigerator. He needs to be crated when alone. He can’t be trusted as far as I can throw him. And as stout as he is, I can’t throw him very far at all. ;~)

I caught him in the act and kicked his butt, best I could. He’s a drama queen too, so he bellers and screams like I’m killing him just dragging him back to the scene of the crime.

As long as she can be pain free (even if it requires meds) and mobile, we’ll be okay with it. I’m just praying it doesn’t progress.

So - with the mowing of your pasture you really will be getting exercise. I used to have eight acres of weeds and grass in NC - that is a lot of walking.

No - she displays no symptoms at all, and seems to have no pain or discomfort at this point.

Man - that is some costume. It looks wonderful, what a tremendous amount of work you’ve put into it. Looks like ermine to me :)

Wow, that’s cool! Talk about a future familly heirloom, with all the work you put into it I’ll bet your granddaughter’s granddaughter daughter will love it. I’ll bet you win the contest too.

Mowing is something I have to start thinking about. Travis tuned up my mower last weekend. It’s just been to wet, and we have rain moving in this evening.

I received a letter yesterday from a member of my graduating grade school not high school, class. I attended a small Catholic School. An all school Alumni weekend. It’s been 40 years since we graduated, been that long since I’ve seen some of those people. I did attend high school with some of them, I’ve never had any desire to attend the high school reunions...I don’t think many from my class did, it was a very dude, class:), not a lot of school spirit, just let me the hell out of here types:) Me included, I hated high school. But this grade school thing might be fun, not sure if I’ll go or not...

It might be fun! Think you’ll recognize anyone? I missed my last high school reunion, maybe I’ll go to the next one. :~)

Barkley was not as bad as last time... I don’t think he’d been at it very long, luckily.

Well, my vet says that there are a lot of perfectly happy dogs running around with X-ray evidence of dysplasia who never even limp. And even more dogs who have it and are never X-rayed, so nobody knows, including the dog.

Hopefully she'll remain totally asymptomatic.

. . . as for the shirt, I figure I must have a couple of hundred hours in it by now (too bad I can't bill it to somebody at attorney rates!) The Indian ladies must have had a lot of leisure time to fill with beading!!!!!

There really isn't any contest, just bragging rights.

I'm the only Indian in this Cowboy Action club, I would stand out in any case. But now I'm going to REALLY stand out. :-D
