Well that’s a real whizzer about the PC. Having to try to transfer all your important stuff from one computer to another is always a traumatic experience to me. Good luck with it.
And that REALLY sucks about the workplace sabotage! I can’t believe that there are people out there who have so little confidence in their own work that they feel the need to sabotage somebody else’s. That’s sad, and if it weren’t so aggravating it would be flattering to think that they feel that threatened by your intelligence.
As for my fuel tank cover, I WISH it could only be opened from the inside, but it seems that they’re starting to not make them that way anymore, which makes NO sense, since the price of fuel continues to skyrocket and the increasing value of what’s in your tank is starting to be a real temptation to a lot of people.
Good morning.
It is snowing here now.
Becky
Is that good or bad? :~)
We’ve got rain, and think snow would be more fun.
Good morning.
Want to join me in a chorus of I hate winter? Hope all is well there.
LOL:)..”I hate winter too:)”
Snow is better then ice, is about the best I can say for it.
I’m doing OK...good days, and bad days, but that’s probably to be expected.
Becky
I have to clean stalls and go to town and get bedding and cat food. And that's about all I think I could manage!
I do have a fun new thing, a leather halter/bridle combo I bought from someone on the horse forum for $45 including shipping. It's very pretty, brass fittings. It's not black, but I haven't really cared about matching for quite awhile. It was a good buy. I've wanted one of these for a long time. I may fit that later, but I'm not sure I want it near my wet dirty horse.
Wow, that looks really nice.......and good price.
I’m cleaning out a closet. It may be wasteful, but I don’t like the idea of giving Macks things to goodwill or selling them, none of the kids can use them or wants them either, so I’m trashing everything, clothes and such. I can only do so much a week so I don’t overload the trash bin.
Becky
Wow, that looks like a well made halter bridle, and the leather looks well cared for. You done good! Did it have matching reins with it?
Well, the forecast is a warm up back up to the 50’s by the weekend, so I don’t imagine it will be here for long.
Becky
Yep - snow is marginally better than ice.
We’re here for you on the bad days as well as the good days. Always a shoulder or two if you want one.
You do what you want. Clothes don’t have a lot of value anyhow. I think I’d be tempted to donate them just to keep from paying to throw them away, but for us fairly casual folk, it’s not great stuff. Mack didn’t seem the type to have several nice new suits in the closet, he’s a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. If he’s got some big warm flannels though, keep them. They’ll be very comforting to you when it’s cold.
I’ll bet you find things in that closet that you’ve been looking for for years. That’s what usually happens to me when I start cleaning up.
Actually, I already did find something I’ve been looking for.
Mack and I use to get together years ago with another couple and play spades. They had these pieces of wood with a groove cut in them that held cards. We liked them so he made us 4 of them for when we played at our house. After years I got to using them to prop open my windows that wouldn’t stay up:)
Anyway, my kids started playing spades a couple of nights a week this winter, and asked me if I still had them. I found two right off, on window sills, but couldn’t find the other two, till I went thru this closet:)
Becky
It is well made.. and to my eye, has not really even been used much. It's good thick leather. No matching reins. I've been thinking, I like the feel of that lead rope you made for us so much, I may go get some of that to use as reins, with some good sturdy snaps, and have my 'lead rope' as well.
Yeah, we’re going to get some warmer weather then too. Saturday will be nice enough for a ride so I guess that’s on the agenda. BladeRider’s gone to Atlanta for a dog show though, so it’ll just be me and Kari and possibly Shirley if he don’t have too much to do. He didn’t go last weekend because he’s been working too much to get his chores done, plus he has his horses shod by the Mennonites up in TN and hasn’t had time to take them up there since sometime before Thanksgiving. I told him that this job stuff was going to have to quit getting in the way of his leisure activities! ;o)
He actually retired a year or so ago but went back to work, supposedly on a temporary basis, right after Thanksgiving, and he thought they would have layed him back off by now, but they haven’t. He’d rather them lay him off because he can draw unemployment that way, but he said it looks like he’s going to have to quit. What a problem to have!
I don’t know if Mack had any pack rat tendencies... but check the pockets and shoes just in case... My grandma was tossing out my grandpa’s rubber boots and a big roll of cash rolled out of them. It was like 980 dollars. all in twenties. She had no idea, so we started checking the pockets and shoes after that. We wondered about it being twenty dollars short of an even thousand, but figured he must have had to borrow twenty bucks out of it to pay the paper boy or something.
Being as you’re pretty close to the ocean, I’ll bet y’all have some places where you can get odd lengths of surplus nylon yacht braid. Seems like it’s around $1 or $1.50 a foot at retail, but can be had for around .50 a foot if bought at surplus. I’ll bet Ramius knows how to do an eye-splice for the snap ends, since he’s into boats and all.
But if you can’t find any cheap yacht braid, I’ve got some of that same rope left, or I’ve got some black that’s very similar. I could probably make you a 10ft one-piece rein and ship it to you for less than you’d pay for just the rope if you have to buy it at retail. Check around and see what your rope prices are and let me know.
The nylon split reins that I’d been using all these years were sooooo long so I decided to make myself a one-piece rein out of the black not too long ago and I really like it. I pulled the core completely out of it so it’s flatter and lighter than if I’d left it in there. The only thing about the black is it’s cover is more tightly woven than the white, so it can’t really be spread enough to do an eye splice. You just have to fold it over and sew it back to itself to attach the snaps. It’s not as neat looking as the eye splice, but it doesn’t look too bad either.
I haven’t looked yet, but I was thinking yacht braid like you used... and if I could find black, that’d be a bonus!
Ramius does know how to splice line and that’s what I was going to ask him when I found the parts ;~)
But I loved your work on the lead rope, so if you want to make one for me, I know it’d be ~just~ the thing :~)
You should sell them, I think you make ‘em better than Parelli’s :~)
I like Parelli’s ropes, but they’re just outrageously priced. That’s what motivated me to learn how to make my own. I’m so cheap!
My next project is going to be to learn how to tie a rope halter. I found the instructions for it on a website somewhere and I have the 1/4 inch rope. Now I just have to find the time to sit down and try it.
