Cisco is my neighbor’s dog (Rosie Cotton from the HH thread)

She’s on a trip and I’m dog sitting :~)

I sure hope you can kick the Lyme thing. I don’t know a thing about it, I hope you feel better soon.

So what caused her to leave in such a huff?

I’m so sorry you aren’t feeling better yet. We have a good friend who has had lyme disease. It is bad, I feel for you. Hope you get well soon.

Too bad you are not in my neck of the woods. Have a great trainer/handler. If the dogs that are fighting the most are male and female you have a good chance of it working itself out. You might try “Leave it” They usually understand that for some reason.

I have an alpha cattle dog that will back down from my 120 lb shepherd but not for long. I have never seen a smarter more alpha female than her.

Thanks... Yeah - I needed Cesar Milan in the room :~)

I don’t trust Barkley completely... he is Beagle, and have the beagles I’ve ever known are a little unhinged. He has a sweet basic temperament, but he’s sure got a tough streak over food. And he doesn’t back down... and neither was Gidget my Dalbrador. She’s a very alpha female. They would have hurt each other before it was over and I’m not sure who’d have been on top.

I went out and cleaned him today and Cyn and pony too... kindof in a holding pattern.

Well, you need to talk to Gidget and Barkley - explain to them that they are stuck with each other and you so DEAL. Really, that's what I do.

Looks like Dusty Rose will be going to the lady that's disabled. She really wants her, at my price, just needs to get the money. She's getting a very good mare at half what she's worth.

Well, I think it sounds like she will be good for the lady. It seems like a match I could feel good about, but I do understand why it’s hard for you.

I hope you can feel good about it. You sell a lot of horses and this one seems different.

I have been through dog fights before and it’s usually female against female. You might put a leash on the one that is the starter and use your hands like your biting them and you could try rubbing their chests at the same time and repeating baby. However, if they are opposite sexes; they should work it out eventually.

Well, this one is the daughter of my riding mare that I had to put down. She's got her momma's personality to a T. I was there when she was born and worried for a couple of days that she'd die, and so on and so on. But I did watch how careful she was with the lady and did see how they love the horses they've got :) I just always thought in the back of my mind that I would be able to get back to riding her regularly.

So - I went and read the stallion thread - that was vicious; and then read the I'm leaving one. I needed the laugh. You have such a good way with words by the way.

Well, that really sucks about the Lyme symptoms coming back! And DANG, that’s enough antibiotics to treat a horse. But hopefully that’ll knock it out. Just remember to eat lots of yogurt and either drink some acidophilus/bifidus milk or take it in pill form coz you sure don’t want your digestive tract to get all out of whack too. And for the chills, get yourself a cheap heating pad and hug it to your chest. I do that a lot of times when I get chilled and it makes me feel better almost immediately. It’s a whole lot cheaper than an electric blanket too. Sometimes if my feet get really cold I’ll put it on a pillow at the end of the couch then put my feet on it. It really warms you fast.

I really hope the job situation works out soon. I know it’s frustrating when you think you’ve got a job in the bag and then they keep stringing it out. Just hang in there and hopefully they’ll come through soon.

I know how you feel about selling Dusty Rose. I really have a problem turning loose of any of mine too, but it sounds like the lady who’s buying her was the answer to your prayers. You really couldn’t have dreamed up a better owner than that. But I wouldn’t hesitate to put a clause in the sales contract that you get first chance to buy her back if she ever decides she can’t keep her anymore. You never know what may happen sometimes. But I think they’ll really enjoy each other’s company and hopefully they’ll have a long and happy relationship.

Good Morning.

Happy Friday!

Beaker, I sure hope you get to feeling better. Is the disease common in your area?

Hair, have you seen the Dog Whisperer lately? He has not been on for a long time here.

Well, they got into it again last night. This time not over food. I’ve been through grumbling outbursts if a dog gets crowded or stepped on or irritated, where it lasts seconds and it’s all over, but not a real fight like this that doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop if we don’t stop it.

I watched it develop, Barkley was laying on the floor in front of the couch, on the wadded up couch blanket. I sat down and told him to ‘move it’, which he didn’t really, so I pulled the blanket out from under him. He was probably feeling a little irritated/defensive about that.

Gidget came at that moment and glowered over him. He didn’t do anything until I poked Gidget and said “Gidget, knock it off!” Then he went after her. I grabbed Gidget and tried to pull them apart but I can’t by myself, Gidget’s 85 pounds and Barkley’s 50 and very strong. Hubby ran in and pulled Barkley off, he had ahold of her ear and wouldn’t let go. The thing about Barkley is he locks into the fight with his mind and won’t quit. Gidget not so much. I thumped and rolled Gidget while hubby dropped and rolled Barkley and held him down for several minutes. When we let them up, Gidget was of normal stature, Barkley looked beaten with his tail under him and wanted to slink off but I don’t think it’s over.

I’d think he was a fear biter kind of thing, that he reacted because he felt cornered, but I don’t think that’s it. He went after her because I reprimanded her and she started to back off... he saw that as weakness or an opening. I triggered it by yelling at her.

And his single mind of purpose is really something. If this happens again, I’ll be trying to pull him off, not Gidget, she’ll quit if he does, but not the other way around.

Barkley’s new around here, a rescue, and while most of the time he’s real sweet, and a cute dog, and while so far there’s no damage done, I’m just not sure we can keep him here.

If we do, it will be a challenge... I better get watched up on my Dog Whisperer. This kind of thing is what he does best.
