Agreed, I’m not looking forward to handling them any more than we have to. The only reason we were going to transfer him was in case this happens early in the evening, so we could reload the trap and not have to go up to the forest ‘right then’. We could go in the morning.

When we released the one the other night that we caught, the trouble actually, was getting him to come out of the trap. I’m thinking one of our tall garbage cans and dump him in vertically.

Well, hopefully that’ll work. Just be careful! You might want to have Barkley handy, just in case he gets out. I imagine he’d make short work of it, or at least put it into “Play Possum” mode.

Great job, Allison! I can sort of relate to how it feels to show, now that I have been a couple of times. I guess it’s something I should have done at her age and not be so juvenile about it now, but better late than never.
That really is a cool way to cut that Fjord horses mane. It’s really pretty. I’ve never heard of the hound jumping class either. Changes things up a bit.
I bet it’s harder to hold the egg in the spoon on a trotting horse than a gaited horse. We did the water in a glass and it was fun. What speed does she have to go with the egg?

Great story and storytelling. I'll have to remember men don't squeal, they shriek. Interesting.

Glad to see the kitten is purring. She's lonesome and ready to accept some companionship.

Oh we’ll be as careful as we can be when we’re trying to handle something we don’t want to be anywhere near!

Heh! It’s an important distinction for a guy, I think!

Kitten is doing okay today. She actually curled up and slept good the last few hours. Hadn’t seen her do that yet, she’s kept one eye open all the time, I think she was finally comfortable enough, or at least, was plain ‘xhausted.

Doesn't sound like it'll be long. The wild cats I've tamed seem like they're more appreciative than the tame ones.

I have had possums come up on the patio and eat my cats food. I'd go out there and try to shoo them away and they would look up and hiss and growl at me and keep on eating.
Raccoons, too, but I'd sit on the step and make pics of them. At least they are pretty and they would run off if you got too close.

Possums just don’t act right. This one had an open doorway and he ran right at hubby instead of away. Hard to tell if they are fearless, aggressive, deranged, or just dumber than a bag of hammers. But they ain’t right.

...dumber than a bag of hammers...

I think that about sums it up!

They may be like armadillos and just have really poor eyesight, but judging from the number of them that I see squashed on the road, they can’t be TOO smart.

Well, the whole “play dead” strategy doesn’t work real well with cars.

They usually don’t play possum with cars, they just wobble on down the road like they don’t see them coming. They don’t try to get out of the way or anything. Of course it’s usually after dark when they’re out and about so they may be blinded by the lights. I’ve had to dodge them several times. As creepy as they are, I can’t bring myself to run over them (or snakes) on purpose.

OK - so we’re back to them just being aggressively stupid. :~)

LOL at the possum story...but man, those things are nasty. Glad I haven’t seen much of them over at my place. *shudder*

The mama trying to get to the kitten sure is a lot of drama! I’m kind of surprised she’s still so interested. Seems like the kitten would be long weaned by now, and usually the mothers just lose interest at that point, no?

Glad there’s been progress on the taming front! I was wondering if it’d prove to be too late. Looks like there’s still hope!

I think she might be super-momma. That's probably why they're alive still, and weren't abandoned when we broke up her nest. I think she's still under the house. Every so often the kitten gets frantic and meows and strains at the cage, and very faintly I think I hear a muffled meow in answer.

But otherwise, when that isn't making the whole thing kindof sad, she's starting to act like a kitten. I gave her some toys today and she played with them.

I could barely reach here here, but she was very relaxed and purring.

Overall she's more at ease most of the time...

Great job on the kitty taming..she is a pretty thing.

I do hope you catch the other ones, especially the mother.

No rain for the past few days, so I got out and mowed the pasture. Pretty dry, except for one spot where they ran the 4-wheelers through and made a big rut, which the water lays in.

All the classes Alison shows in, are Walk-Trot. She turned 9 last week, so next year she will be in 4-H and then advance to the canter classes.

Hey, you are doing well at the shows and having fun too...that is what matters.

I already caught and spayed the mother, and she’s had her shots. I don’t need to catch her again really, just the babies. :~)
