Look, dogs make good pets because they confuse their owners family for their own. They protect their owners children and will not be happy unless they sleep and eat where their owners sleep and eat.
So for a male pit bull to mistake a baby for a female dog is not theat far away from any other behavior. Male dogs get few chances with a female so they are likely to mount anything they can, your leg, the cat, a child. As long as the dog did not hurt the baby in any other way and he was not hurt.
