Cold facts often upset "spiritual convictions."

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the the yellow and red dyes used for tattoos are the first to fade, and ALL the inks migrate randomly over time, through capillary action, reducing that delicate flower of your youth into a shapeless stain on a wrinkled, leathery hide.

San Francisco State University, known worldwide for it's intellectual rigors... Don't you have to be warm to the touch to get in? What did she minor in? Bowling? Basket Weaving? A university is supposed to expand your mental horizons, not function as a trade school for overstressed joints and justifying the motions as theology. "Dance" is just another academic excuse for people to hide in school rather than work for a living. I would ask how many schools, public or private, carried "dance" curricula in 1900?

Bigotry, by the way, is irrational hatred. I'm a snob, thank you very much.

And not everyone is Christian nor desires to be.

Read Mr. Jeeves post and mine-—Not only is she amazingly talented, but making a fabulous living off of her talent (so no, her ‘degree’ isn’t wasted, its used and expanded on)

And again, before you insult this woman, I dare you to go on YouTube and say you can not only DO what she does and be as much of a success in every way that she is.....(and we’re talking money, fame, respect and perfection in her art).

Again, I don’t think you ‘get’ that this woman isn’t some flake, but a successful dancer AND business woman.... as well as one of the most hardworking, self-disciplined humans I’ve ever known.

Lastly, if its folks like you that are offended by me and my ilk, then there isn’t enough ink on the planet for me! As for the inks, research-— they have changed in chemical conformation as well as the attitudes towards maintenance and touch ups.

Ever think someone might just enjoy dancing?

I mean, not everyone has a dozen PhDs like you. Some people might choose to do what they like to do.

Of the holier-than-thous on this board, you sir, are by far the holiest.

It’s been my observation that those who can’t be original tend to become religious.

The ego-driven comments that you have made remind me of the old adage: “The mind is like a parachute - it works only when it is open.”

I’m curious to know what threat to you is someone who dances or is involved in the arts ? You do know [or maybe you don’t] that whatever career you choose in life is just a hobby, eh? Because in the end, only kindness matters.

Yikes!! You need to get out in the world a little more and realize that even though everyone isn’t just like you (thank God!) it doesn’t mean they’re not worth a little respect.

In a culture where some guy painting a room white and peeing on the floor is "Art" rather than a hygene problem, "dance" is "art"? To claim that throwing yourself about in the arms of a genderless male for the edification of the adults and the amusement of the children is some higher state of "culture" is mockery.

Actors, dancers, jugglers, street mimes are all of a type, one step above thieves and footpads, and until films started a self aggrandizing campaign, were not people you would want to be seen with in public. Lindsey Lohan, Barbra Striesand, Rosie O'Donnell, Alan Alda, are all wildly overpaid "artists", with the intellects of a fence post, who play 'pretend.'

I'll present this question to all of you. Success in weight-lifting, ice skating, gymnastics, all require constant personal dedication and talent. Are they worthy of a College Level Master's program?

LOL!! And if you wanna be really anal you’ll believe that pierced ears are equally bad. Good grief! That’s pretty darn legalistic if you ask me, which you didn’t.

Easy-—
Most dance fields require not only core ed in college, but chemistry, biology, human anatomy and physiology and other related sciences, plus broad history & specific dance history, plus human kinetics, education, spacial theory, basic choreograhy, music and rhythm history etc....

So everyone I know who has a dance degree is not only ultra-smart mentally, but in great shape physically. Not many degrees can boast the best of both worlds.

Fine, you have contempt for art, it’s clear. You seem to have no comprehension of who or what you’re degrading, as if you crawled out of some pre-Victorian time warp. You’re contemptuous, simply because we refuse to hold your opinions in like esteem.... Again, because some of us respect those who are not only artists, but instead of stopping there, went on to be all they can be in their field, in ways of education.

Because they were smart, talented and physcially gifted....they’ve become successful, famous and respected.

Again, you say you’re a snob. I just see you as sad. What a tiny, narrow world you seem to live in.... if so few people have your respect.

The God I believe in wouldn’t condemn me for a little drinking, smoking, tattoos, piercing, cursing or whatever... I don’t want to believe in a God that would condemn me for so little.

But many on FR only chose to believe in God in return for the promise that He will condemn people whose behaviors they don't like. Enough of this sissy "love" stuff...bring on the Inquisition!!! ;)

You're a perfect example. I'm a philistine if I sneer at your interpretation of "art." I'll bet you go to art shows and rhapsodize about the angst of the human condition as exhibited by a blank wall that you think is a polar bear in a blizzard.

An auto mechanic studies physics, fluid dynamics, stress analysis. Does that make him an "ultra-smart" artist? You impress too easily.

I'll bet you like van Gogh, without examination, on faith, just because everyone else is silly enough to. Please grow your own opinions, and leave the parroting to Daily Kos.

We Victorians tend to be less than forgiving of those who try to hustle us by claiming, "You just don't understand!" We understand all too well, because we try not to let Emotion overcome Reason.
