Thanks, I’d avoid Sony also based on past experience with Sony products — overpriced and overrated.

Do buy Sony. I have a 40” XBR1 (1080i)in the bedroom and a 46” XBR3 (1080p) for the home theater. Stunning picture on both. No problems what so ever.

My Sony DVD player has never had a problem. It is almost 7 years old. I also have a Sony 5.1 receiver that I also bought in the year 2000 and again, no problems. You get what you pay for. If you purchase near the high end, the products last longer.
I have only had one sony tv and it didn't last that long, but I bought that tv back in 1979.
