My 23 year old was once upon a time wound tighter than a Swiss watch. Spankings, time out, the whole deal. We just got to the point that we didn't go. He eventually grew out of it and is doing well.

The other night we were discussing discipline and my son said I should have spanked his sister more. I said I'm not sure it makes a difference. It didn't seem to with him.

He grinned and said, Sure it did. I didn't end up in jail, did I?

Spanking works if done correctly. 1st of all, it SHOULD hurt; theres no other way around it. That means no thick jeans, red butts and maybe a crying child by the end of it. You do it right so hopefully you don’t have to do it again, and you always remind them that you love them. Thats what my dad did, I respect him so much for doing so. You can go on yelling and threatening until your face goes red, and it may work for some kids (if your lucky), but kids know if your serious about it. The best parents aren’t the ones that give in to their kid’s every whims. All you will get is a spoiled child who knows that their parents will take care of them no matter what they do. There are countless examples out there. Once in a while though, you see disciplined, well mannered, incredibly mature children and you just know that they came from a good family.

Think about it
