Hagrids COMC class isnt shown, so its Luna who tells Harry about the Thestrals. Yeah, and riding the Thestrals to the MoM is sort of out of the blue. If I hadn't read the book I'd be lost there.
Other than that you note the same things that jarred for me.
OTOH, Umbridge was very good, I would have had her just a hair more cloyingly sweet, and Luna was darn near perfect.
and was it just me or did Harry's glasses lack lenses in about half the scenes?

What I want to know is why in all these movies none of the characters is ever shown going to the bathroom and doing the usual business there, number 1 or number 2?Because it pisses off Moaning Myrtle, DUH!

St. Mungos -- that reminds me, is there much of Neville in the movie?Yes. He does well. (I think he and Luna are going to be an Item)...

I hope you can get an autograph. Their characters are so much fun. :)

I haven't seen the film version of OOtP yet--is there any mention made of Montague being trapped in the cabinet? I was surprised that Umbridge asked for students to volunteer to be members of the Inquisitorial Squad.
Didn't see enough of them in action to make it worth shoving Montague into the cabinet.
There are going to be far more nuances and outright clues in the books than in the movies, or the movies would run to ten hours apiece.
The whole thing really should have been done as a TV series, at the rate of 2-3 years per season there would have been enough time to do it justice.

Didn’t you know that Wiccans worship the horned god of the hunt? James Potter could turn into a stag and Harry’s patronus is a stag, therefore Harry Potter is the DEVIL!

That could be. I just remember reading in the first part of the book where it said the American leader was horrible. Or something to that effect. Its been a while, I should go reread it to be sure.In one of the books, the PM is waiting for a call from the President, and has some very uncomplementary comments about said gentleman.
There was an FR thread about it, turns out it was written during the clinton administration, but published early in the Bush administration...

One question I have regarding the movies is whether JK Rowling has approved the scripts and the changes from the books. If so, then the details that are omitted or changed in the movies must not be crucial to the last book; if not, then I wonder how the last couple of movies will be able to get to the conclusion of the stories if important details have been changed in previous movies. This was the primary reason for my thread. Either the last two movies will be a complete mess in terms of storyline OR fans are way, way off base in predicting important plot lines.
JK Rowling has said that Harry having Lily's eyes is important but that has also been fairly well ignored in the movie.

If theres no quidditch in Half-Blood Prince either (as Dan Radcliffe has said in an interview) how do Harry and Ginny get together? Maybe they won't if that isn't absolutely essential the the story ending?

Does Sirius specifically call Harry James, or is he calling to Harrys father? The best I can say now is that my impression at the time was that he was talking to Harry. It wasn't a random shout out of "James". I believe Sirius and Harry wre talking.

I think the Cho instead of Marietta thing was minor. In the book, Harry breaks up with Cho later anyway, so it's a moot point. They also didn't show Harry and the Weasley kids going to St. Mungo's, where the others found out about Neville's parents. Kreacher wasn't fully 'realized' either, since Harry didn't try to contact Sirius before going to the Ministry.
Likely the locket will be introduced later, if it is important to the outcome of the series. I'm just now re-reading "Half Blood Prince", in anticipation of the new book, so I'll be paying closer attention to the whole horcrux thing.
I thought it was interesting that they went through the entire year and never even mentioned Quidditch ONCE! I enjoyed the movie, though I thought it started off rather slow. I loved Imelda Staunton as Umbridge; she displayed suitable creepy-sweetness, which morphed into downright meanness! I'm glad they brought in the centaurs later in the movie, and had them carry her off, even if they didn't follow up on the whole 'Firenze as Divination teacher' plot line.

That by far was one of the best scenes of the book, I also liked the scene where Umbridge and Ron are both in the medical wing of school and he does the clipclopping sound and she becomes startled. That was cute. :)

I think people shouldnt be encouraging children to get involved in the occult. Me too. That's why I Dream Of Jeanie and Bewitched are banned at my house.
