You probably know the story well: On the 14th of June, 1947, after a powerful thunderstorm in the desert, a rancher, William "Mac" Brazel noticed some strange debris while working on the Foster ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. He does the right thing, what any American would do. He loads some of the debris in his pickup truck, and takes the stuff into town, and shows the sheriff. The Army Air Force is called in, teams of heavy equipment and troops scour the site. A press release is given to the public by Lieutenant Walter Haut, the public relations officer at the Roswell Air base in 1947, and the sensational news is broadcast around the world: The United States military is in possession of a crashed flying saucer....

Fantastical claims must produce some hardcore evidence.

As indeed they often do. In fact, the very signed and notorized affidavit that this story refers to has to do with the hardcore evidence you firmly believe doesn't exist because your trusted news media hasn't shown it to you. And if and when it does, a party wouldn't be in order unless you are a fool.

Thank God the jury in the Scott Peterson case didn't subscribe to your way of thinking. Peterson's lawyer sure would have wanted you on the jury, though.

Yes or no: Do you believe that Gordon Cooper lied in his autobiography?

You’re scaring me - so I’m leaving for the Anna Nicole Smith thread - where we are trying to solve 2 murders.

Your comments on newsrooms, editors, reporting and cover up apply to this story as well.

McMedia - find it, cook it, serve it hot and chuck the leftovers.

Funny how these visits of the most “intelligent creatures in the universe” always seem to land in rural Alabama in front of two toothless, beer-drinking pogey fishermen.

One of the funniest moments in human history was when Tesla, in the 1880’s, demonstrated the radio controlled torpedo to the Navy. The Admirals had no idea what to do with it. It was so far beyond their tactical thinking, they had no use for it. They wanted armor or cannon.

What is wierd is that our level headed conservative friends refuse to consider the evidence. Walter Haut’s posthumous affidavit is an important development. Now they will attack Walter, by they do not impeach the facts of his testimony. Walter was there, the critics were not. What has Walter to gain at this point? Bragging rights in Hell?

If these aliens are as advanced as what they are reported to be, the Alabama boys are as much consequence to them as the president or the Queen... When you walk by an ant hill, do you bend over and demand. “Take me to your leader” You are as far above the ant society as they are technically above us.

I love Tesla stuff and have heard of the reaction to his attempts to sell his inventions to the US military. Not the most forward looking bunch of folks. Just ask Billy Mitchell!

A favorite Tesla story dates to his time in NY city, living at, I think, the Waldorf. He was a popular figure among the NY rich, intelligentsia and arts crowd. He was a popular guest at the swankiest parties and made friends with a wide range of famous people. One of his better friends at the time was Sam Clemens (Mark Twain).

Tesla had a large lab in the city and often brought by his rich and famous friends for very popular demonstrations. One of the favorites was a platform he had rigged to run high frequency current through the people standing on it (safely). It gave them a fantastic tingling sensation, caused their hair to stand up from the electrical discharge, etc. He always limited people to only a short time on the platform before he shut it down and made them get off. Clemens (Twain) insisted that he was up to an extended time and insisted that Tesla leave the current on, despite repeated (though non specific) warnings. Tesla relented and left Clemens on the platform longer than his normal time. What he hadn’t spelled out for his guests was that high frequency electricity has a... ummmm.... laxative effect.

Twain made it off the platform (safely) and to the bathroom just in time, according to his version of the story. Good thing since he always wore white suits. ;^>

I have no question that a lot of people who’ve had so-called alien encounters actually believe them to be true. In that case, I would not call them liars.

But whether those events happened as remembered is another matter altogether.

I think they refuse to consider the evidence because they want to stay level-headed, if you get my gist. It's safer and it's probably smarter. Hell, I don't know. I don't even know why these threads fascinate me so much, except as an interesting study in human nature. I think folks who couldn't handle it instinctively know that. The time isn't here yet, apparently, so ... *shrugs*

In other words, ya got me! All I know is that the day it is *announced* that alien beings are here, will be the beginning of terrifying times.

I think he believes what he says.
That does not make it examinable evidence however.

Some people even believe they have been abducted.
I do not think they are lying, simply that is what they think happens to them.

Your answer to: Do you think Gordon Cooper lied?

I think he believes what he says.

and I do not think they are lying, simply that is what they think happens to them.

Then we trade insult for insult. I basically insult your mindset by believing that you think the way you do because down deep you can't handle the truth, and you basically insult thousands of respectable, credible professional men and women in both the private sector and the military, by believing they can't tell the difference between reality and "what they think happened."

And there it is!

Evidence sir.

“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” -Carl Sagan

I have been crunching radio telescope data for many years now looking for that evidence in the most logical way possible we can think of right now....

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/

That answer may never come, we could be utterly alone, or seperated by vast distance or time for that matter.

But your wont find evidence in books people write or TV shows or converting people on forums into “believers”.

When the facts change, I change my views, what do you do?

I believe that if the Alien presence is admitted, it would actually strengthen our institutions such as patriotism, government, and religion. In times of flux people grab for the familiar. This society has been thoroughly prepared for such an announcement by entertainment (comics to movies, TV, songs, and etc.) and nonfiction books for many years.
