To: Monkey Face
I can't open my shades enough to get all the light that I want. And there are no overhead lights in this place except in the kitchen. (I need to free up some space for another lamp!!)

I'm becoming more like my German colleagues. Office lights remain off (unless I REALLY need them) so the lighting is grey. I don't especially like the loss of color, but it's beginning to feel more comfortable somehow.

(That I'm not burning energy unnecessarily, well, I've always been a conservative wrt my wallet&resources.)

Germans put the Scots to shame when it comes to being frugal. As cold as it got there, the landlord of the house would not turn the furnace on until almost the end of October. By then the ground was hard, and we either had snow or rain, and LOTS of sticky mud.
