- Britain is proposing to remove the term "prostitute" from the criminal statutes because it carries too much stigma.
Instead, a new bill that the Justice Ministry has drafted refers simply to persons who sell sex persistently -- defined as twice or more in three months.
"We just wanted to remove the stigma of the label 'common prostitute'," said a spokeswoman for the Justice Ministry.
"It's been around since 1824, so it was a bit outdated. It just wasn't really helpful to label people."
The new bill introduces measures to try to get sex workers out of the industry, and in effect decriminalizes prostitution for those who are not considered persistent.
How's abouts: FAVOR TRADER? or PLEASURE ENGINEER?
John Bull lays down the law.
Geez, why not just get rid of all the frickin laws, as they may hurt some poor criminals feeeeeeeeeeeeeelings.
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
And they certainly wouldn't want any stigma associated with their criminal statutes, right?
And why isn’t this in Breaking News, where it - and you - belong? Huh? Huh?
Read that a few times and let the irony sink in. ... criminal statutes ... stigma. So now wave your conviction proudly, knowing that it will carry a kinder, gentler sort of name to lessen the stigma of being convicted! Sheesh!
Well, in America they prefer to call themselves “Representative” or “Senator”... ;-P
Your restraining orders against me are only good in IL. You’ll have to think of other ways to get rid of me here.
LOLOL!!!
Now they can work on other words for POLITICIAN.
Howza bout Prostitute?
Save ink: ho.
Now they can work on other words for POLITICIAN.
Howza bout Prostitute?
But, 'politician' has even worse stigma.
O.K., but the real question will now be how can you have prostitution without "prostitutes?
If they can call prostitutes "sex workers" and what they do an "industry", then they have already done great damage to the integrity of language. So rather than use the unwieldy expression "those who sell sex persistantly," might I suggest something more appropriate for a worker in an industry: like, "Happy Time Management Technician." A newbie to the industry could have "Trainee" attached to title and then she (or he) could work up to "Assistant" and really experienced whor....excuse me -- technicians-- could become "Seniors" and eventually switch "Technician" to "Specialist." And not to leave out pimps and madames, maybe appropriate executive titles could be arranged for them.
Well, they already eliminated terrorist from their vocabulary, so why not eliminate prostitute?
I also think murderer is “outdated”. How about “breathing interruption technician”?
Or “Journalist”.
ROFLOL!!!
