We are still awaiting further details, but PWInsider.com is extremely saddened to report that former WWE and WCW World champion Chris Benoit and his wife, former WCW and ECW personality Nancy "Woman" Benoit were both found dead today in Atlanta, Georgia. Obviously this will be a huge developing story in the days to come but at this point, we'd like to express our deepest condolences to the Benoits' family, friends, and fans at this time.
A meeting is currently ongoing at WWE TV and it is expected that tonight's three hour Raw will now be dedicated to Benoit's memory.
6:09 Update: WWE.com issued the following statement this afternoon:
"WWE is sad to report that Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in their home. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Tonight's Raw will be a tribute to Chris and his family."
That may be true .... but has nothing to do with his death unless ....
you are implying a possible “roid rage” incident but i would think after years of use (if he was using) he would have that part of it under control.
The liberation of Paris is imminent..
:-)
From what I understand, his family emergency was that his wife and kid were extremely sick.
Nope - that was a different story.
CNN reporting that they were not killed with a gun, but that it was death by homicide. Murder-suicide outlook (thankfully) lessened, unless he took the Jim Jones route.
Also note that Benoit was the source of that 'family emergency' about his family being sick. Could just have been an excuse to go home quickly. Wait and see.
Its definatly weird then, the rest of his family lives in Canada, the only family he has in the US, is his wife and youngest son (the other 2 kids also live in Canada).
I am watching it, and damned if I am not crying at a great deal of it. Malenko’s speech darn near killed me.
Keep an eye on this story.
*hands you half a box of Kleenex after watching Chavo Guererro’s thoughts*
Poisoned, maybe — or contaminated food? What could cause them to throw up blood?
Yeah, I don’t even want to speculate at this point. Nothing about this makes sense right now. I’ll wait for the authorities to come up with some answers before further commenting.
While I don’t doubt that was what Benoit said as the reason for him missing the Sunday PPV (realize missing a PPV is huge, so his excuse had to be bug), who knows if its true? Keep an eye on the story.
Amen, this is so sad he was a class act!
T’was weird when I went to the WWE website and saw it loading, very slowing, five pictures of Benoit (instead of all the McMahon stuff and stuff about yesterday’s PPV) and I’m thinking, what the ****, something happen to Benoit? (with a sick feeling in my stomach) Then the headline about Benoit Family Found Dead finally pops up and I’m thinking, what the ****, the whole family, including Benoit? Then the story confirmed Chris and his wife and young child, and I remember he was married to Woman.
None of this makes sense right now.
I came home around 330pm PST and got the word then, and posted this thread. Sad story.

Missing a PPV where you are slated to win a Championship Belt (ECW) is even huger (is huger a word? lets just say really, really, really, f'n huge)... not to mention that he was slated to carry the ECW francise for a rumored long run...
Yes, I agree. I don’t doubt that was the excuse he gave for cutting out on a PPV (and as you note, a big one for him), but that may not be based in reality at all. Wait and see.
I agree. May be true & it may just be wild speculation. That happens a lot in cases like this.
