The whole valley looks like a giant ice cream scoop went through it. Only glaciers do that to granite. As for the uplift, the Sierra Nevada Mountains are a product of the collision between the Pacific plate and the North American plate. The Pacific plate is being forced downward and is driving chunks of the N.A. plate upward. No aliens. No UFOs. Nothing but boring, old plate tectonics.
