Does it have to be just the snacks? How about the kid himself? Wouldn't’t the bear normally pray on a kid sized animal? I don’t know anything about bears but I think they eat people sized animals like deer for instance. The bear might have been just hunting a big meat meal not a peanut butter sandwich. Don't bears have young this time of year to take food to.

Bears reagularly kill fawns and small game and when the opportunity presents itself, full grown deer, and even other young bears.

They are opportunistic omnivores - if its made of organic material, they are interested.
