"I do wonder though why ya'll feel compelled to personally disparage the motives and character of folks you disagree with over this. One is seduced by her looks. One is not really conservative. One approves of promiscuity, etc. when the argument is over whether her sentencing was customary or not in LA county. Plain and simple. The statistics will prove that ..yes or no and all the pundits I've seen say she got hammered." 1. Please cite for me where I questioned your motives. I've seen plenty of people suggest that those advocating the enforcement of her sentence are engaging in class envy, but I never questioned your motives in kind. 2. For the umpteenth time, the issue is not over whether or not the sentence was "customary" --- the issue is over whether or not the sentence should be enforced and WHO should make that decision. It is NOT the role of law enforcement to make decisions about the "fairness" of a sentence -- that is the job of the courts .....PERIOD. If Hilton's lawyers don't think the sentence was fair, let them appeal.

"I don't understand your vitriol at Hilton but that's fine .." Well, I've explained it to you. If you don't have a problem with the impact Hilton and those like her have on young girls, that is up to you. She sends a message to young women that education and hard work aren't important. Partying, promiscuity, vanity and possessions are. There is a frightening trend toward "entitlement" among our young women. Dr, Phil has covered this. Laura Ingraham has discussed this extensively on many occasions -- cars and expensive clothes are no longer enough -- now the trend is plastic surgery. Several years ago, Bernie Goldberg, who also wrote "Bias", listed the 100 people who are screwing up America. Paris Hilton's parents were on that list and he is spot on! I'm surprised a pro-life, pro-culture war father of daughters doesn't see this.

Apparently Hilton's handlers have seen the public sentiment and have, wisely, decided to drop it --- at least for now. (I don't seriously think Paris penned that statement herself, but the result is the same.) The bottom line is she will been serving the sentence she was given and that is a good thing -- both for Hilton and for society.

Partying, promiscuity, vanity and possessions are.

Very few women (and some men) who are not guilty of the last two as well.

I'm surprised a pro-life, pro-culture war father of daughters doesn't see this.

Hilton's lifestyle is not on trial, of course I don't approve of it nor most of what passes for American youth kulture today but again that is all irrelavant in court. I'm not arguing about judge's authority here, but I have questioned his departure from his normal sentencing patterns for her. That is the only issue I care about with Hilton, the rest is not part of it for me anyhow.

thanks for the concise post btw....
