Read Brian Greene, The Elegant Universe, to learn about superstring theory and M-theory, string cosmology, especially the imprints of trans-Planckian physics on the cosmic microwave background, and brane-gas cosmologies. He's pretty much thought it out ...but still irks other cosmologists ... which is why I like him.
