LAS VEGAS (AP) - A device left in a casino parking garage exploded early Monday, killing a hotel employee who picked it up, authorities said.
The man was removing the device from atop a car when it exploded shortly after 4 a.m. on the second floor of a parking behind the Luxor hotel-casino, said Officer Bill Cassell, a police spokesman. He declined to describe the device, but said initial reports that it was a backpack were wrong.
Police said the blast was not a terrorist act but an apparent murder of a Luxor employee. No threat had been made against the Luxor, Cassell said.
``We believe the victim of this event was the intended target,'' Cassell said. He said another hotel employee narrowly escaped injury when the device exploded.
Gordon Absher, a spokesman for MGM Mirage Inc., which owns the Luxor, said he could not confirm that the victim was an employee.
Aerial video showed no apparent damage to the parking structure, where entrances were blocked while police, firefighters and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents investigated.

Bombings in the USA are not exactly rare. Not as common as stabbings, but around a thousand a year, this is one of them.

Curious that they could think the victim was the sole intended target if they don’t even know who he is. How does one ensure that the right person will pick up a coffee cup in a parking lot?
This is TERRIBLE!!!! I had no idea the government was covering up so many Muslim terrisrist bombings.
I was thinking the same thing. But if the cup was sitting on his car...he’d most likely be the one to move it. Wouldn’t you think? It was a gamble.
And my brother did say, that this is all just what is making the rounds among the employees...nothing “official” is confirmed.

I stayed at the Luxor last time I was in Vegas. Really nice place. God bless this poor victim.
ELF does some, plus people like Eric Rudolph try to blow up clinics, then there are organized crime hits, and so forth. Don’t assume these are all “terror bombings” in the context of the Global War on Terror.
We have domestic criminals that are capable of making a pipe bomb or two.
Sorry, I realized I should have added a sarcasm tag to that post. Aimed at the freepers who believe every explosion is a Muslim terrorist attack.
Which means it wasn't really 'targeted'. Anyone else who happened to be close by would have been hurt or killed too. Terrorism in my book, although unlikely to be of the Islamic kind.
Must have been one of those forced suicides.

Eric Rudolph was a terrorist certainly for his Olympic Park attack.
The OU Terrorist has since been awarded a memorial stone at the university. And authorities believe that he intended to kill more victims than just himself.
As has been noted on this thread, though, this deal sounds more like a plain ol' murder, maybe a family matter...
