Posted on 05/05/2007 11:53:47 AM PDT by Vision
Pay per view starts at 9pm. This is the fight of the year.
Mayweather is probably the best fighter in boxing right now. It will be great to see how Oscar shows up for this; it may determine the rest of his career.
Right now tradebetx has it to win:
Mayweather -199
Hoya +170

"De La Hoya has the anoying habit of coasting most of the round and then turning it up for the last 15-20 seconds. Hoping that the judges will view favorably on his late round output.""The last 4 rounds of the fight were terrible for De La Hoya. All in all, that wasnt even the fight of the week."
A lot of boxers play that game, smart judges don't fall for it and it's not fair to the fans.

(That's right, I have no proof. So what of it??)

Best fight I have seen in a decade was Gatti v Ward. All three of them. Best fight trilogy since Zale vs. Graziano.

Id like to see Hopkins vs. Mayweather. Except for the fact that Hopkins is 42 years old and his last fight was at 175 lbs. Way too big and old for a fight with Mayweather these days. A prime Hopkins fighting a 154+ lb. Mayweather would've been an absolute nightmare for Floyd.

The last 4 rounds of the fight were terrible for De La Hoya. Which is how he lost his fight with Felix Trinidad a few years ago. ....although under slightly different circumstances (Oscar thought he was way ahead on points and just coasted). Not a great late-round fighter.

"That's why I think the reminder that informs boxers there's 10 seconds left in each round should be done away with." That's a good idead. What do you think about some of the open scoring fights? IMO bad idea.

Yeah, I thought that too but the claim is that he’s set to fight Winky in a middleweight bout in June. Hey, if he’s going to all the trouble drop the fight with Winky and give us one to remember. For Hopkins, it would certainly help cement his reputation, and be a huge payday.

I agree -- bad idea. But my biggest beef with boxing is the alphabet soup multiple "world titles" -- the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF. 17 divisions, 4 "champions" per division. Who can keep track of 68 title holders? And that's one of the reasons why boxing is losing popularity. Back in the old days there were 8 divisions and 1 champ per division. ....very easy to follow, and being a champion meant something. The crooked promoters have been the architects of boxing's demise.

It's all about the payday, not his reputation. The latter was cemented with the wins over DLH at middle and Tarver at lightheavy. Bernard just wants to cash a couple more fat checks.
Did you see both of Hopkins' fights with (current middleweight champ) Jermaine Taylor? I think he got jobbed in at least one of those fights. ....and I'm sure he's still pissed about it.
To: Mr. Mojo
The knock has always been he is out of gas after 10 rounds. Look at his legs, they are so skinny.

I remember back in the 70's my father brought a convict down to Puerto Rico to fight for the NABF title and I thought North American Boxing Federation, what's that?
