IIRC, such things have occasionally worked—very rarely.

But the human had to swing the club etc. before the ET was aware of what was about to happen.

There have been tales where the human was picking up a club, knife or whatever and then in the midst of doing so just “forgot” what he was doing and left the club alone in a kind of zoned out state.

BTW. In Texas we have mosquitos that would make any self-respecting ET wish that pirahnas had bitten him instead! Not to mention fireants, redwasps, copperheads, rattlesnakes, moccasins and the occasional "bubba".
