Update from anonymous freeper

.................................................................................................

My mom has had further Dr appointments. They say the congestive heart failure is due to a combination of 4 other issues, mitral valve prolapse, sleep apnea, thyroid issues that were undetected til now, and a fourth factor (which I can’t remember right now). The heart tests are showing the stress on the heart. They have her on medication (an Ace Inhibitor) for her heart issue and on Lisinopril, I think, for the thyroid issue. She said she is already sleeping better the last 2 nights.

I have heard from some that a person can live 10 years, and others who say the heart was in bad shape and it was a short time. Mom is in the Category IV, in severity (there are only 4 categories).

One of her greatest frustrations was that the Dr gave her very little information, or explanation. Dad finally got on the net and pulled info from the MayoClinic site for her. She read it, highlighted (nearly the whole 15 pages ::grin:: ) and now is more at peace with it.

I know our God is the God who is the great HEALER! I know that “by His stripes she WAS healed”. I am standing and believing on the promises...”none can take her from His hand”.

As far as my daughter, and grandson...today is her birthday!! Trying to keep her DOWN is hard! I hate to see what happens when the nesting instinct kicks in. (Oddly, I actually saw that in her 4 days before they told her bedrest! I was teasing her then, but had no thought of where we would be today!) They don’t have her slated for another Dr app’t for 3 weeks. They don’t want to check anything and stir-up labor. She has a nurse coming in bi-weekly to check on her through one of the programs she is in, her mentor mom is a nurse and has been here a few times a week, my mom is an RN and only a phone call away...

Again, God is in control! He is taking care of her and my grandchild!! “I know the plans I have for you, to prosper you and not to harm”...

Thank you ALL for your continued prayers, they are being felt. I will update you as things occur...Lord willing it will be a few weeks...

blessings and hugs to you all!!

trussell,

Here I am again asking for your help. I need to learn how to post myself, but today I need prayers for, my husband, Bert and our family.

Bert has stage IV melanoma, and he is starting a new form of chemo today. The last type did all that it could, and this is the last chance just to contain the cancer, and buy us a little more time.

He has never been depressed in his life, but now is, will not eat, and has even lost interest in his beloved Cardinals.

I have just spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia, and have little strength myself.

Thanks.

Maria

I am so sorry to hear of all your troubles/challenges that you’re going through right now.

Of course, prayers are lifted up for you and all those you love. I pray that our Heavenly Father will be with you during these trying times to give you both strength and consolation to get through the days and weeks ahead.

I especially pray for the little baby who really needs to grow some more before heading out into the daylight of this world. Special prayers being said to God above for all that he can do for you.

Update from the anonymous freeper

........................................................................................

My daughter is hanging in there with the bedrest. I took her for a ride the other day so she could get out, and not go crazy.

My mom -— the family, from all over the country, has bugged her with phone calls insisting she get a second opinion. PTL! With call coming into Iowa from CA, MI, CO, MT, SD...she listened. Her appointment with a cardiologist was today.

I wish I could say he thinks everything is ok. :(

He ran several test, including one where they went in esophagially. The movement of the blood from her heart is not right. The mitral valve is not working properly, which we knew, because of the mitral valve prolapse. However, there is more to it. Either there is damage from a heart attack or viral attack in the valve area...or there is a blockage. Any of these three has damaged her heart, and the blood flow is backing up, and not being pushed out the rest of her body as it should causing the congestion in the heart and lung area, therefore the fluid build up.

Mom is scheduled for an angiogram with an overnight stay next Thursday (10th). They will be checking for blockages. If they find anything, they will be talking ballooning, stint, or by-pass surgery. (I am trying to get a grip.)

This will do nothing for the damage in her heart that is already there and an issue for the valve, as it is near the valve. They will discuss the options for that after their work in Thursday. (options...surgery to replace the valve, or live with it on medication — which will not correct the damage, just make living longer possible.)

They came over late this afternoon to discuss this with the kids and I, before heading back home. I am still trying to put the pieces together and the ramifications, yet wanting to stay in denial to avoid the thoughts of the brevity of life. MY first granchild is not even here yet... He should grow up knowing his great-gramma!

A. Nonny Moose:

You’re in a place where many of us are also, or have been recently...parents who are nearing the end of their lives with us and the beginning of their lives with God.

In the end, it is indeed His will that is done. If Mom is to be with you longer, then she will be. Mine suffered an event over Christmas ‘03 that left her on a ventilator. She lived a shade over three more years.

During that time, I and my family got to spend more quality time with her than we had in the previous 30 years. I also got reacquainted with my step-sister’s and half-brother’s families.

Now, I know none of this is like your situtation. But it’s my way of saying that the time you have left with Mom - be it short or long - is time that you get to decide is going to be good or otherwise.

If you are the kind of strong person I believe you to be, it will be good. It won’t be painless, but you know as well as I do that He didn’t promise us freedom from pain and suffering. He did promise us life everlasting with Him, though.

He loves you.
