USI and Foxconn to reportedly make the Wi-Fi iPod
The rumors mills are working overtime again. If it is not the iPhone it has to be about the iPod. DigiTimes is reporting that Apple is all set to roll out a Wi-Fi iPod and that Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) and Foxconn are the chosen companies for the task.
The rumors mills are working overtime again. If it is not the iPhone it has to be about the iPod. DigiTimes is reporting that Apple is all set to roll out a Wi-Fi iPod and that Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) and Foxconn are the chosen companies for the task.
USI will be making the Wi-Fi modules, while Foxconn is charged with making the OEM system assembler, the report said. The Wi-Fi connected iPod is due out sometime in the third quarter of the year.
However DigiTimes has previously reported many Apple exclusives, some of which did not pan out. It is not clear if Apple wants to invest heavily in the Wi-Fi components given the fact that Microsoft's Zune is not such a big hit among consumers.
Additionally with the iPhone almost out in the market, Apple would not want to divert resources elsewhere. However wireless sharing is the emerging this these days and a Wi-Fi connected iPod does make sense. Whether it will hit the markets this year is another thing altogether.
