VENICE, Fla. -- A 13-year-old Venice girl died after being thrown from a horse.
Mary Angela Jaquith was practicing for a jumping competition at her family farm on Saturday when another member of her riding club had a problem with a horse. Jaquith saddled up to see if she could help.
But the horse reared back, threw Jaquith to the ground and rolled over her.
Jaquith's mother, Debra is a former nurse. She rushed to the girl's side and found her unconscious and bleeding heavily.
Jaquith was airlifted to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Despite her riding helmet, Jaquith suffered a fracture to the base of her skull. She died on Sunday.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for today in Venice.

That means that a group has formed to own a horse as a group.
I am not sure how it differs from a corporation or a partnership. AmericanMother can explain that if she has not moved on to other things by now.
She's always been a clever jumper, even though she wasn't broke til she was 14 she figured it out quickly. She's also very adjustable, I can take her in for the short spot or stretch her for the big one, and it's like having a very responsive sports car. I just wish she wasn't so OLD - although she's very sound at 24, I take the easy fences and the short cuts with her now.
A syndication is like a partnership, a group gets together and buys a stallion, shares in his upkeep and the (hopefully) profits. There are some wrinkles because anytime you're dealing with collateral that EATS . . . < g >
I would shoo the cows out after the AM milking, that was one of my jobs. There was always at least one Holstein that took a shot at me as we went down the lane from the barn, boy did I get tired of that! I started carrying a longe whip with me, made them a little more respectful.
