Hi Celtic,
I'd forgotten you were, (still are) a Marine. I actually like Yuma and live close to the base, about a block from Club Yuma, of which I am a proud member. I don't do much around town because most of my time is involved with work, but I do go to Spragues every Saturday and shoot up a 100-rounds with my 9mm.
As you would imagine, the base is a very busy place...lots of activity and the Marines are a great bunch to have as part of the town. (This coming from an ex-swabbie!!)
Good to hear from you.
Hi, Cuttin,
When I was stationed there I owned a condo at Casa de Encanto on Cypress Point. It was about a mile from MCAS. I loved the sound of th ac going over head..I miss that. When we came back to Yuma after my HQMC tour I rented out my condo and we had another over at Via Viejo on Sauharo Lane. The golf course is out that way as is the convention center. It was a great place for running as it was so level.
Have you gone to Cretiens? That is the place that used to be the big hangout for Marines who had the nacho eating contests. Joe Cretien (RIP) really treated his Marine pals so well..he was a hero to us..
You will notice, if you haven't already, that the monsoons move in much sooner than in years gone by. Ask any old timer there, When we firt were they the humidity didn't really move in to the Yuma area until Aug and it could be miserable. But with all the building, the grasses and swimming pool the humidity moved in by end of May so that the high temp and the oh 68% humidity can make for a tough day. Still, I miss Yuma and the Marines there. Can't take the Marine out of one of us even when we are forced to retire.
Keep in touch..
