Stupid question. I'm trying to research this on my own but am not having any luck.

Is Chloral Hydrate in any way close to Chloroform (that which was put on a cloth and put over a persons face, used during the civil war)?

Chloroform is an antithetic that's used to put patients into a deep sleep for and during surgery.
