I think I just figured it out.
Stern is a lawyer. That's why these judges kiss his butt.

I know Anna gave Stern all this power of her daughter, but I truly think if she felt her life was in danger and not just drugged in a stupor, she wouldn't want her daughter in his hands. But Anna, you made this stupid mess. Jeez.

I thought of the same thing a long time ago. The average guy cannot get away with all these goings on for as long as HKS has. That's why I think we see Milstein, Perper, etc., being so friendly to him also. Hopefully, the investigation in Florida will prove otherwise, but they're still careful in saying that it's not a criminal investigation.
