stlnative, Asheville is in NC and is about 65 miles from Greenville. Here is an idea of the temperatures of both places:

Average Daily Highs & Lows January Asheville-Hendersonville 45.9/25.8 Greenville-Spartanburg 50.2/31.4 July Asheville-Hendersonville 83.3/62.7 Greenville-Spartanburg 88.8/31.4 Average Seasonal Snow Totals (includes sleet and ice pellets) Asheville-Hendersonville 15.2" Greenville-Spartanburg 6.3"

My daughter was living in Asheville when my first grandchild was born, and I drove up there and back everyday while they were in the hospital..a beautiful drive through the foothills and the mountains.

I really liked Asheville too, but I understand the downtown area has become a 'hangout' for the homosexuals and lesbians. Apparently, Asheville had a gay mayor who got laws or ordinances passed to benefit their activities. Met a couple who were planning to retire to Asheville, but changed to Hendersonville, NC after finding out about the gay population. Still Asheville is a beautiful city, and the Biltmore House and Grove Park Inn are well worth visiting! I guess I'm a little partial to Greenville since I've lived here so long and have 'roots' now. Give us a try!
