I think Stern was playing interfernce. Here Anna is thinking that Daniel hates her when in reality per Daniel he wasn't letting any of his phone calls get to Anna.

Totally agreed. So, if it isn't stupdity on Perper's part - it must be purposeful misconduct. Then we ask why? Was Perper just swept up in the Anna Nicole "beauty" and is vouching (through is ridiculous Autopsy dependence on the information given by the person most likely to be implicated in wrongful death/homicide - who was - in his mind - closest to Anna?
Or has he been either cajoled, threatened, or bought off?
My internal jury is still out on Perper's motive.
And there are really only two choices re: Perper:
Incompetence (stupidity) or purposeful wrongdoing.
