Congratulations on your 'A'. When you work for something the reward is so much more important than when the reward is handed to you without your effort.

When I was a junior/senior in college, I was in a discussion class with about 12 other high level, including grad students in a history class. One morning, our professor was running late, so we started the debate on our own. She walks in and we're deep in the middle of our own argument. Then her husband, who was a fellow history professor, walks in, and she tells him that we started the debate on our own. He does a jig right there. It was hillarious...

Since the media rushed to Edwards to comment on his foul mouthed bloggers why is there no demand for comment from hitlery. Her supporters denigrating a black candidate?
She must be asked to comment!

It started so innocently, with a simple question that blew into a full-fledged debate. I think it had something to do with Stalin's Gulags...

Delightful story, ABG! He recognized true excellence in self starters.
I've learned that lesson well, OF...there is worth in the effort of trying anything. Failures even teach one to try again because you've learned what didn't work. Inventors and scientists use that method all the time.
Grades aren't the be-all of anything either. Working just for a grade is not really learning imo.
Another memory coming up! On a T-F test in a psychology class, the professor had marked one of my answers as being wrong: in the Q&A, I told him that I thought my answer on that one was correct because I had myself observed the opposite 'fact' to be true. His reply was that "according to the textbook...."blah blah blah. I told him he could keep the point...I wasn't interested in that. I maintained that the textbook's author was wrong. He chuckled and that was the end of it.
Several years later, I met him on campus and he addressed me by name (which surprised me because the class had had 75 students in it....probably remembered my impertinence in doubting the textbook. LOL

My greatest academic accomplishment was the A I got on my mid-term in Structural Geology. I STILL remember one of the questions: "Relate the theory of pressure faulting and strike-slip faults to the Mohr-Coulomb Theory of Rock Failure."
I worked SO HARD in those geology classes because I was a woman, because I did not have a strong high school math/science background, and because I was paying for the classes myself.
There is a lesson in there somewhere.

GOOD A.M. CHAIR, ALL FROM THE 'COLD' MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST USA and NO CHAIR, CAN'T FIND GLOBAL WARMING HERE EITHER!!!!
What would you do about the body of Nicolle. Even though there was a strange relationship with her mother she is just that, her mother. If Her 'common law' husband was more interested in her than the bunches of money she MIGHT be entitled to I don't think he should get the body. I have always said that no matter what your children do, they are part of you and your love for them never leaves. I also feel that the baby should be put in mothers care until the true daddy can be established. So much for my 'wisdom'.
It is cold here this morning with the high for the day to be in the 40s. It was by my old Copper tone weather systen detector, it is 37 right now and to us, that is cold. I am happy to say that we do NOT expect any snow, sleet or frozen rain.
Jason bulletin!!!! He likes to put bowls on his head, with food in them, but other wise eats very well. Of course you KNOW that 'BawBaw' gives him some sweets after breakfast which is against the rules set down by D, oh well, what she going to do, fire me?
Got to go and get some chicken feed today, crushed corn as that is the favorite of the El chick O's. I also want to see when the farm store starts getting their chicks, turkeys, etc., so I can 'upgrade' my flock.
D starts preparing to get another foster child and it might be the sister of Jason, if not she still wants one more child, me too, how often does a guy get to spoil a child again and again.
I had to run to the big house a while ago and me and Jason watched BLUES CLUES, that kid picks up on things real fast.
Here is hoping that all have a good day, a safe on and one filled with love towards someone.

Good morning.
Molly - I think you asked about Charlie Norwood yesterday and I didn't answer. He was in elected office when he died in Georgia. What the next step will be to replace him is unknown.

I know what you mean. I had a grad course in Shakespeare that I absolutely loved and another one...a lab...in biology!
Unfortunately, I never had what I would consider to be a good history course....even thought it might be my fault in not being interested in wars, treaties, and memorizing dates. Instead, I found through my own wide reading and through literature that history...ideas, personalities, changes, countries/geography, etc. is fascinating!

Wouldn't you care for a cup of tea, Father Ted? I made cake, it has cocaine in it...
Or Polonium 210...;-))
To: Miss Marple
My husband and I talk about this self esteem bit a lot and how it's damaged kids.
USA Today had a hilarious article about 6 mos about about the first college graduates who were raised under this self esteem model.
New employees were given relatively easy tasks, such as drafting a memo for their supervisor. Said supervisor was dismayed at the number of spelling and grammatical errors and tried to discuss these issues with the new hires.
Several Fortune 500 company supervisors who were interviewed for the article said that the employees would respond when told their spelling wasn't good "That's your opinion". LOL

Hi b4!
Carolina, Diane Ravitch was interviewed by Bennett this a.m. She's written a book: The English Reader..essential literature we should know from our heritage. It gets excellent reviews on Amazon.

Peach, did you ever find a dress? I believe the Appleseed catalog has some possibilities worth looking at.
Dolly, how about your heat? It wasn't bad out there principally because there was little wind...still you need heat in your home, wind or no wind...that just made it less frigid doing errands.
Raven, my husband cleared the ice and snow from the only pipe by our furnace, whatever its function...it seemed like a good idea. They mentioned this on TWC last night and I thought I heard it was the intake valve, but maybe not.
