The cause of her death was an over dosage of sleeping pills. She had taken an entire bottle of 800mg sleeping pills, knocking her out unconscious a few minutes later. Her bodyguard rushed in from a snack break and found her lying on the ground unconscious and performed pointless CPR on her because she had already died

On February 8, 2007, Smith was found unresponsive in a room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
