Doesn't the law at last in some states say that the remains are to be turned over to the closest ADULT relative? Richard Milstein(?), or whatever his name - the guy known for his cuddly hug of Howard K. Stern, was no relative and the baby was too young to make any decisions.

Yes. The relative has to be 18 or over. Thus, Milstein took the place of Dannielynn. IIRC, there were 3 different statues involved in the hearing. Maybe 2. It was the judge's job to decide which statute to base his decision on.
