I think if $tern is coming around, it is because some iota of the law school training is coming to the front lobes of his brain, and he realized (on the stand) that he could really go down...not just financially, but incarceration wise.
Seidlin played pretty free and loose with what was introduced, and let $tern get away with not even listing the meds he no doubt administered to ANS. $tern has to realize what an formal inquest into both deaths would mean to him.

I wondered if the judge didn't let some of the details of what HKS is accused of to make sure that such details do not become inadmissable in a criminal court.
I got the impression by the first day and more so by the second day that the judge was thinking this guy might've killed Daniel and Anna.
