Then there's this........
Fueling the fire
NASCAR announced on Sunday that the Nextel Cup Series will run smaller fuel cells when they return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the 400-mile race on March 11.
Speeds were up dramatically at LVMS during testing last month after the track was reconfigured from 12 to 20 degrees and teams were concerned about tire wear on a 17.5-gallon fuel run. The 13-gallon cells were used at Lowe's Motor Speedway and the restrictor plate tracks last year. The smaller cells should cut fuel runs down by about 35-miles.
Tony Eury Jr., crew chief of the No. 8 car said the decision "sucks."
"We test there for two days and then they change the fuel cells and left-side tires," Eury said. "That's a waste of time for everyone."
Some teams predict that LVMS will suffer a similar fate to what happened at Charlotte in 2005 but most agree that smaller cells are a better solution to restrictor plate.
