NASCAR penalizes Kahne, Kenseth and Waltrip
Lee Spencer / FOXSports.com
Posted: 2 minutes ago
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - NASCAR disallowed the times of both the No. 9 car of Kasey Kahne and the No. 17 car of Matt Kenseth following qualifying for the Daytona 500 on Sunday.
NASCAR vice president Jim Hunter said that inspectors found unapproved devices that enhanced the speeds of both cars and "which could mean a hole here or there" particularly in the wheel well of the No. 17. Hunter added that both cars will start from the rear of the field in the second qualifying race on Thursday. Additional penalties, which Hunter said could include fines, points or suspensions, would be announced tomorrow. Hunter added that the infractions were every bit as serious as Chad Knaus's creativity with the rear window on the No. 48 in last year's Daytona 500, which earned him a four-week suspension.
"We are committed to trying to stop all the games that are being played," Hunter said. "We're committed to maintaining the integrity of the garage area and we're going to do whatever it takes to do that."
Hunter also confirmed that in addition to the manifold of Michael Waltrip's No. 55 car being confiscated, the car too was impounded following qualifying. The jury is still out on whether the car will be allowed to race on Thursday.
"We do not know whether the manifold is illegal," Hunter added. "But we want to know."
Waltrip said before qualifying, "If we were in real trouble, they would have taken the car."
Looks like he got his wish.

Look for a dq from the 500, 500 points, ineligibility for the Chase, $500,000 and an 8-race vacation for Reiser to be levied on the 17 </sarcasm?>

Then there's this........
Fueling the fire
NASCAR announced on Sunday that the Nextel Cup Series will run smaller fuel cells when they return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the 400-mile race on March 11.
Speeds were up dramatically at LVMS during testing last month after the track was reconfigured from 12 to 20 degrees and teams were concerned about tire wear on a 17.5-gallon fuel run. The 13-gallon cells were used at Lowe's Motor Speedway and the restrictor plate tracks last year. The smaller cells should cut fuel runs down by about 35-miles.
Tony Eury Jr., crew chief of the No. 8 car said the decision "sucks."
"We test there for two days and then they change the fuel cells and left-side tires," Eury said. "That's a waste of time for everyone."
Some teams predict that LVMS will suffer a similar fate to what happened at Charlotte in 2005 but most agree that smaller cells are a better solution to restrictor plate.

sterno for horsepower? Seems like a stretch to me.
I'm just trying to think of a way you would get it in.....
"What is Sterno® Cooking Fuel made of?
Sterno fuel is a formulation of denatured alcohol, water and gel."
Strange. Sterno injection?

You know there will be a much harsher penalty than was levied on Hen¢AR's favorite team last year.

And on Friday they took all of this.........
NASCAR inspectors seize parts from several teams
By JIM UTTER / The Charlotte Observer
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR inspectors were busy Friday on their first day at work inspecting cars Nextel Cup teams plan to use in next week's Daytona 500.
Unapproved air directional devices were confiscated from the cars of Eric McClure, Mike Wallace, Johnny Sauter and Brian Vickers.
Unapproved slotted mounting holes were taken from the cars of Kevin Lepage and Mike Bliss. Several cars also required adjustments to their bodies before they received their inspection stickers.

Maybe they were trying to run top fuel as in drag racing. :)
I don't know we used to use it in catering to keep the food warm.

I read that this morning (at work!!), surprise surprise!!
And I just listened to Smoke bitching about the tires on the right side being different last night, "that's why every one was so loose! Why did they change it?"
Does not make a lot of sense, does it? After everyone tests, change the tire composition.
After all the crashes during testing you knew they were going to do something.
But it seems like the person (?) that be in charge of the tire stuff is marching to a different beat.

Let me be the first to turn the discussion away from the 13, 9 and 55, and talk about a different "conspiracy" not being covered elsewhere --
RCR dominated last year, including at Daytona. Late in the season it was reputably reported that NASCAR post-race inspectors had found RCR cars in violation. Shortly after the report, both NASCAR and RCR denied RCR had "cheated" but there was no credible denial that RCR had been doing something outside the envelope.
Skip ahead to the off-season and NASCAR adds some new rules.
Skip ahead to Daytona qualifying, and all three RCR cars are at the back.

Like I said, it's Hen¢AR, not RCR-CAR or Roush-CAR.
