Booty explaining top 35 are in the 500 of course, 2 from the Duels are in. Pole sitter and 2nd position from qualifying are in...no need to be in top 35
Here is the simple version from Jayski..Steve usually does this, but I don't know where he is. Bottom line is that a lot of folks will be going home.
The simple version: how the Daytona 500 lineup is set:
Pos 1 and 2: Pole sitter and outside pole sitter from Bud Pole qualifying
[no need to be top 35 in prevoius season car Owners Points]
Pos 3 thru 39: top 35 in prevoius season car owners points and two highest finishing teams in each Gatorade Duel races race NOT in the top 35 set by their finishing postion in the Gatorade Duel races.
Pos 40-42: fastest qualifiers not in by above
Pos 43: past champion provisional, otherwise the spot goes to the next fastest qualifier.
Where did the non top-35 drivers the 2nd practice at Daytona?
these drivers and one past champ would make the race by speed if things stayed the same:
#14-Sterling Marlin, 2nd fastest
#36-Jeremy Mayfield, 4th
#00-David Reutimann, 12th
#44-Dale Jarrett [CH1], 54th
these drivers would need to make the race via the Duels if things stayed the same:
#23-Mike Skinner, 13th
#55-Michael Waltrip, 18th
#70-Johnny Sauter, 20th
#39-Regan Smith, 23rd
#60-Boris Said, 28th
#13-Joe Nemechek, 33rd
#37-Bill Elliott [CH2], 36th
#15-Paul Menard, 37th
#78-Kenny Wallace, 38th
#09-Mike Wallace, 45th
#4-Ward Burton, 46th
#71-Frank Kimmel, 47th
#83-Brian Vickers, 48th
#84-A.J. Allmendinger, 49th
#34-Kevin Lepage, 52nd
#27-Kirk Shelmerdine, 53rd
#49-Mike Bliss, 55th
#74-Derrike Cope, 56th
#30-Stanton Barrett, 57th
#72-Brandon Whitt, 58th
#04-Eric McClure, 59th
#58-Jame Hylton, 60th
25 drivers will be fighting for seven spots...
Thank you for the history update about the race. Bill Elliot sure has an interesting biography behind him. He was my favorite driver for a lot of years.
Vickers was just on Speed Raceday saying he thinks he will have to get in via the Duel 150's. I say good luck to him /not.... he may have to push people out of the way again. But there will be a lot of folks ahead of him.
He just better stay away from the 8 tonight!
He's a class act all the way. I was just reading this on Jayski.
Sponsor to be announced for Elliott?: hearing #37-Bill Elliott will be sponsored at Daytona in the Bud Shootout and Daytona 500 by restaurant chain Huddle House.(2-10-2007)
I think Smoke will climb the fence tonight.
I guess his Shootout car is ok. He was having trouble with fuel pick up or something today in 500 practice, spent some time in the garage.
Can't get the damn tv working right yet. damn nephew set parental controls. URG!

I missed you guys. OK, not really, but I missed the racing!
No they're not sandbagging. DJ looks like his car is running pretty good, we will see pretty quick tonight if he can keep up and stay out front those first 20 laps.
