You are losing sight of the point that the photos provided by the Colonel are out of focus. Out-of-focus objects appear differently in a picture and than in-focus objects do. The picture I provided above and the one given by the Colonel are both of out-of-focus objects.

"You are losing sight of the point that the photos provided by the Colonel are out of focus..." You are correct, I was losing sight of that point. But how do they get the pictures out of focus? By focusing them closer than infinity, or shaking the camera? I'd think it would be a simple matter to just set the thing on "infinity" and then shoot.
