Well, I think it gets into the Persian vs Arab thing (look into Iran's stance on changing the Persian Gulf to the Arab Gulf or whatever, you'll find a lot of hostility between Iran and the Arabs).
There were in fact Jews living in Persia at that time - quite a few. I want to say that the Persian leader depicted in '300' was married to a Jew. but I do know there was a Jewish presence back then.

The Persians of the time were probably Zoroastrians, today's Parsees, although there is a lot of argument about the exact time this religion got going.
