I do not endorse what you have proposed. Nor do I encourage or endorse the theoretical actions described below.

But, from a strictly theoretical standpoint;

If a dog were shot and the body disappeared who would know.

Also, if the shot were taken from inside the house, the sound would not travel near as far.

If the bullet were in the dog's body, and it was recovered, there would be evidence against the rifle.

There are better ways than a firearm to kill a dog. Firearms are uniquely suited to self-defense and not good for committing "criminal" acts.

Of course you could always entice the pit bull to come close to you, and shoot it up close and personal. You could plead that it attacked you. Who would testify against you?

You definitely ARE a 2nd class citizen, just like your friend "definitelynotlikeable"

Pathetic that any of you could condone killing an innocent animal. Animals that attack humans or kill other animals should be compassionately euthanized. Otherwise, what are they guilty of?

There's some really concerning hatred rearing its head on this thread.
