Looks like the dog was in distress when the girl aproached it. It does sound like an unfortunate accident and IMO could have happened with any breed of dog.

I disagree. Show me one story in the recent past where a Lab, a Springer or any other breed has attacked and killed a child for no apparent reason.

There have been some rare occurrences of Labs, Springers, and other breeds biting for no apparent reason but it seems to me that Pit Bulls don't just bite and leave it at that. Too often, Pit Bulls go for the kill.

Where is your reading comprehension skills. The dog was hung up in the fence and was in distress. Any animal in distress like that is capable of turning on anything that approaches it. It is unfortunate that the mother did not realize this and let her 10YO daughter who probably weighed less than the dog even get close to that scenario.
