I was also wondering about the EMP blast...how wide of an area would that have affected? I assume CTU is shielded to protect themselves or otherwise they might not have been able to watch the blast on their monitors.

After tonight, I was thinking I'm glad it will be only one hour episodes from now on. Too nerve wracking.
But when I got the first few seasons, well, I watched them way over the time limit. My excuse was I had the flu. I think I watched the first season in 3 days.

I was also wondering about the EMP blast...how wide of an area would that have affected?As I understand it, EMP is generated by a high-yield, high-altitude blast... since this was a low-yield, ground-level blast, I wouldn't expect there to be any EMP.

It would be less than 5 miles. Since it was a ground burst, I'd have to check on the blast range of a 1kt nuke at that altitude.
