Nifong is trying to stay out of jail. Nifong will drag Mangum into court, she will not be about to ID Evans, Finnerty and Seligmann with certainty and Nifong will drop the charges hoping against hope that he can lay this at her feet.
Nifong's problem is that Mangum had already changed her story a couple of times prior and he conspired and hid evidence. So he still has serious criminal and tort liability issues.
