I lived vicariously through my older siblings...my older sister bought an Emerson turntable. Her first real album as an older teen was Allman Brothers Eat A Peach.
She gave me all her old 45s with the old phonograph that played 33 1/2rpm and 45rpm. My first musical interest was old Motown and R&B. My oldest sister gave me The Best of Three Dog Night (early works prior to their later success with Joy to the World, Shambala, etc) which constituted my first album -- all at the age of 7!
FACTS about this decade (1970-79):

Unemployed in 1970: 4,088,000
National Debt: $382 billion
Average salary: $7,564
Food prices: milk, 33 cents a qt.; bread, 24 cents a loaf; round steak, $1.30 a pound
Life Expectancy: Male, 67.1; Female, 74.8
I was the oldest and showed my other two brothers all the things to do that would get the old man to kick my a%%. (Deservedly so) They saw it and figured out what not to do so they grew up pretty decent and well adjusted.
They've never thanked me for my sacrifice though :)
