Celia is bringing me some square bales for now. Her round bales are where it would be hard to get them since the ground is so soft and wet. But that's the route I've decided to go is with round bales for each horse. They'll get turned out thru the day to eat on them, and then locked up in their runs at night.
The square bales will work till we can get to the round ones.

It'll be interesting to see how long they last doing it that way.
We've been feeding a lot of hay at night when it's cold... I might consider reversing when you give them access to the round bale. Let them nibble all night, since your riding time will cut into the day anyhow, and he may not have a full stomach yet in the morning. It might work out that if they've been eating all night and you pen them in and feed breakfast a few hours before you ride he'll be just about the right amount of fueled up and digested then. I dunno, just food for thought.
Any particular reason for that? I just let mine have access to the rolls all the time. They'll eat on them for a while, then go out and pick at what little grass is out there for a while, then come back in and eat on the rolls some more. Just curious is all.
