The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I wouldn’t pull the stitches unless it’s completely healed and they’re still there. I’d leave ‘em.

It’s been a month since our last ride.

We’re getting what is going to turn out to be an all day rain, not just a shower. Really out of the ordinary. I hope some of it makes it over the pass where the fires are.

And that deer taking a whiz in the middle of the road is just hysterical.

The dignity and majesty of wildlife... It ain't ALL National Geographic :~)

Heh, I knew you loved your dogs, but making them gods is a bit extreme don't you think? ;o)

Heh... yeah - oops :~) a little sidplexic. ;~)

Nice rains this time of year are always welcome.

Making note here, hoping this helps it not slip my mind if I tell you all about it. I suppose to go to Debbies tonight see about feeding her horses. I start the 19th, but can’t remember how many days she said I would do it.

Her horse still isn’t home from the vet yet....can you imagine that bill, whew!. He’s been there since May 15.

Well, stitches usually are supposed to come out after 10 days if they’re the non-dissolving kind, so if these haven’t dissolved in that amount of time then I’d think you’d be ok to clip them and pull them out.

OK here's a comparison with past years...

Here it is in 2003 during ecurbh's visit here. Just one lava dome in the crater. No glaciers or permanent snow inside the crater in summer, just a little on the outside.

2005 when Overtaxed was here... - a little hard to see, but the first dome is in front and the second dome has grown in the back.

Last year 2006 when Becky was here... the third dome had formed and was very round.

And this week. That third dome has continued to grow. The mountain is slowly filling back in :~)

I think even though there were clouds, the air was so much clearer it was a better day when Becky was here.. it was pretty hazy there this week, I had to play with the exposure and contrast quite a bit to get the details to come out in the last picture. That's why the color tone is different.

I think it's interesting to note the changes throughout the years. Also interesting, it was July 13, 14 or 15 the last three years we've gone. Something keeps drawing me to the volcano the same week in July every year ;~)

Cool! Let's hope it doesn't try to blow it all back out any time soon!

That is really cool the way it’s changing:)

Pictures just don’t do it justice tho...Hard to really get the feel of how immense it is.

That’s true... even with the pics full size, it’s still only 12 inches wide on a screen.

Ok, here's a link to the chase video. And here's a link to a video that shows you that gaited horses can do big springy dressage trots too, and finally, just because I thought it was kinda funny, here's a link to a video of Grace flirting with Bob. He keeps nibbling her ankles and she keeps squealing (turn up your volume and you'll hear it), but it's really like "Oh!...Please!...Don't!...Stop!...Oh Please Don't Stop...OhPleaseDONTSTOP!" But in the end Bob gets bored and just starts grazing, leaving poor Grace to stand there frustrated. LOL! Mares are So funny when they're feeling Mareish. ;o)

They’re having a great time!

Bob’s ankle nibbling is hilarious! I’ve never seen that particular form of foreplay in ours :~)

Could you hear her squealing? It was like she was going “Quiiiiiiiit!!” but then she wouldn’t quit egging him on either, and that went on for quite a while. He’d wander off and she’d circle around under his chin and cut him off, trying to hike her tail up under that fly sheet to entice him, and then going right back to it. It was really funny.

Frog - Great video clips! Grace is too funny with her little squeaks.

Hair, those are great pictures! I remember driving to Spokane, I think it iwas in '84 when the volcano was blowing smoke. It was pretty cool.

The squealing was great... here.. the squealing usually means “Will you quit goofing around and GET IT ON ALREADY?”

Hi everyone!

Hope you're having a good week so far. It's my birthday today so I've been goofing off floating in the pool and eating ice cream cake *burp*. The joys of a summer birthday! :-) I was going to ride, but I overslept. Ah well.

Thanks Hair! How have things with ecurbh’s folks been? Have they expressed any interest in the horses at all?
