The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

A group. The kids stood in the center, the adults ride walk,trot and canter the first way, then they come into the center, make tack adjustments, then the kids ride the other way. It is pretty fun.

Glad you had another nice ride. You and Levi are going to make a team.

Mine are outsise. I used to have a grapefruit, orange , lemon and lime. My husbands dog got hungry though. The orange tree is huge and produces all year round.

From what I'm reading, Trovita is the best orange for indoors but I don't know one orange from another. Is a navel orange a type of orange or can any orange be navel? I like those :)

Supposedly, the indoor oranges only get about 8 foot tall. That's cool because any bigger than that and I couldn't deal with it - but my worry is, how many oranges can an 8ft tree have? I remember my uncle's orange grove and those were really big trees. I guess I'm trying to decide if I would get enough oranges to make it worth it.

I love citrus fruit of all kinds but there is no way I could grow them here unless they were indoor plants.

Mine is 8 or more feet high but very wide. It probably has a least 200 fruit bearing capacity. I’m limited to what I can bring in to this area but look at Gurney’s Catalog. They have some miniture and dwarf citrus trees that could be inside. I don’t remember the type. I’m not a very knowledgable gardener. I don’t know about navels. I guess I should. I just know mine are big and very sweet and the birds love them:’) I’m looking into getting some nets.

Thanks for the information - I was wondering if I remembered the size of the trees correctly from 50yrs ago :) I think I'll get a couple and give them a try. If they get too big, I'll just whine until hubby gets me a greenhouse.

I've been freezing green beans and squash from the garden, as well as cooking squash one way or another every night and fresh peas, so he is becoming enthused with the idea. He even built three cold frames for me so I could carry some cold season crops later into the winter and then start things earlier next year.

My green house ( the den) isn’t working too well. I need a real one. If I lived in your climate I would definately have one. You should come down to a flea market we have here. Every kind of food plant you can think of is usually for sale. You might have trouble getting them out of here though:’)

Psst :) Don’t tell anyone, I once drove through Texas towing a car. The trunk of my car was full of house plants, the trunk of my ex’s car was full of Coors beer :)

My dad’s wife grew an orange tree in the house. They got a couple of oranges a year off it. they said they were really good too. I have no clue what kind, or how she kept it. Just thought I mention it:), they can be grown in the house:)

The one at my dad’s house was very spindly...not much foliage at all.

It is very humid here tonight. I’ve been out mowing the front yard and you can see the humidity hanging in the air. Jenny, and all the grandkids are coming tomorrow, and we are having a picnic in the front yard. I picked up one of those Little Tyke playhouses at a flea market yesterday. I’ve been wanting one....I think the boys will like it for a fort, and I got lucky, this one isn’t pick and purple:). I’m not really sure how they will like it, but I know as a kid I’d have loved one. Anyway, I didn’t realize till yesterday when Kristy stopped by with JP for a few minutes that I didn’t see the boys at all last week because of the dentist visit...I really missed the little guys:), so altho I don’t think Kristy will get to stay she is dropping JP off and Jenny is bringing Tucker and Blake. So I had to get the yard mowed, even tho my mower has a bent blade...I used the weed eater. It’s not as smooth as the mower but it’ll do.

LOL...what a rabbit trail...all that just to say the humidity was heavy:)

Oh, the boys will love that. And you all can spray paint it camo if they have a problem with the color :)

It used to get that way in Alabama - I could see the water in the air.

I picked zucchini and yellow squash this morning early, sent some home with my sister, made up four grocery bags and had Bob deliver them to others, and froze about 6qts. I just went out again and picked eight more. My garden is like the Little House of Horrors :)

I have been shopping on line today, looking for the dwarf ones. I’m trying to find some that are 2 or 3yrs old and don’t cost an arm and a leg. I think on my lunch hour tomorrow I’ll stop at Lowes and see what they have.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Yesterday, I took a ride to a couple of the horseman's area to pick up some maps. One is a little over an hour's drive and the other one, less than 45 mins. If it doesn't rain on Thursday, I will take Alison riding. Storms are predicted all week, so we shall see.
